SDSI Director Gives Keynote on Verification & Validation in Complex Adaptive Systems

Presentation on V&V of Complex Adaptive Systems

Werner Dahm, Director of ASU’s “Security & Defense Systems Initiative” (SDSI), gave a keynote presentation titled “Perspectives on Verification & Validation in Complex Adaptive Systems” at the recent Workshop on Verification and Validation in Computational Science, held at Notre Dame University during 17-19 October 2011.  The presentation addressed the key challenges faced in establishing certifiable trust in the software that enables highly adaptable autonomous systems, including advanced “unmanned” systems.  He also discussed how such software can be architected in novel ways using systems engineering approaches to enable improved verification and validation, and where the largest remaining sources of uncertainty in system performance are likely to originate from.
